R#58 Karl Nowak, Digital Business Developer

Karl Novak

From the punk rock tour bus into the major music business. For years he raced across Germany and abroad with the band “Itchy Poopzkid”. His job: merchandiser. Karl Nowak probably got to know every club in Germany at a young age and immersed himself more and more in the music business. At the same time, he began studying at the Pop Academy and focused primarily on digital and strategic fields in the music industry.

After spending a good year at the Zentralrat Mitte under Eric M. Landmann and Marc Feldmann, he finally moved to Universal Music in 2014. In the Redfield Podcast with Alexander Schröder, Karl Nowak reports on the topics he dealt with there. He was particularly concerned with setting up the company's own digital sales company Spinnup with its own A&R approach. He later worked on Enter Records, a joint venture between Universal Music and the Electronic Sports League (ESL).

Both look at his career and talk about modern forms of evaluation and distribution of the future as well as the opportunities of digitalization in the music world. It becomes clear how much Nowak thinks in terms of brands, technology and business development.
