From Grammy nominations to TV spots for soup. An entertaining journey through 20 years of indie culture and the music industry.
Daniel Kempf initiated the Immergut Festival in his hometown of Neustrelitz when he was in his early 20s. Without any previous experience, he and friends booked his favorite bands from 2000 onwards and organized an event that attracted 5,000 visitors after five years.
At that time it was mainly from the small indie scene, today established music greats such as Sportfreunde Stiller, Tocotronic, Donots and the Beatsteaks performed in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
At the same time, Kempf started the Mikrokultur booking agency with Nadin Brendel, which organized the first performances in Germany from 2004 to 2008 for bands such as Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and Death Cab For Cutie. These international acts achieved enormous popularity and were sometimes nominated for a Grammy during this time.
After ten years of Immergut and his own agency, Kempf started again and explains his reasons for doing so in the Redfield Podcast. The festival was always his passion, less business and the small agency were not always taken seriously by the big players in the music industry.
Together with the singer of Virgina Now! Nino Skrotzki he founded an agency that built and managed bands like Hundreds and Vierkantretlager. After a few years he continued alone with OWTF Entertainment.
In an interview with Alexander Schröder, Kempf reports on the development of the Immergut Festival, why he had to withdraw from it and what management philosophy he represents. And he also reveals the thing about the soup...
