R#56 with Steffi von Kannemann, founder of Better Things

Steffi von Kannemann

About rebranding, empowerment and the discovery of Scandinavian music in Southern Europe. After studying politics and sociology in Rostock, Steffi von Kannemann immersed herself in the Berlin music scene, became politically active, organized hardcore shows and played trash pop. When the capital became too small for her, she worked for an electronic label in Barcelona and discovered Scandinavian music in sunny Spain. She fell in love not only with the sounds of Scandinavia, but also with the culture and attitude to life.

Back in Berlin, she started “Nordic by Nature” and brought Scandinavian music to the big city, played it at her own parties, organized concerts and over the years established the music agency of the same name. This grew steadily and eventually supported more than just Scandinavian pop artists.

Not only because of this, but also because of the formative year 2020, von Kannemann ultimately renamed her company “Better Things”. In addition to the well-known PR services, she also established “Better Independent” as part of the rebranding; a new project with which she and her team want to strengthen and advise independent musicians.

Steffi von Kannemann talks to Alexander Schröder about this development and her own Better Independent podcast, which is worth listening to. In the Redfield Podcast, she explains how important this new service is to her, how she assesses future developments in the music industry and what differences she sees between Germany and Scandinavia in terms of a progressive music landscape.
