R#49 with Jochen Schuster, founder/CEO of Getnext.to and music manager

Jochen Schuster

As General Manager of the Universal Music Domestic Division Polydor/Iceland, Jochen Schuster worked with stars such as Avicii, a-ha, Helene Fischer and The Boss Hoss and was involved in countless gold and platinum awards. After the native Dutchman started his career in the music industry at Sony Music in the 1990s, he soon moved to the Universal Music Group as head of marketing for the radio play specialist Karussell and held various management positions there.

One of his most commercially successful releases also fell during his sixteen years at Universal: Schnappi, the little crocodile! The music project became an international bestseller and commercially highly successful thanks to the song of the same name.

At the same time, Jochen Schuster supervised major TV projects such as the casting formats “The Voice of Germany” or “Star Search” on Sat 1. He remembers “Our Star for Oslo” and Lena Meyer-Landrut's triumph in the Eurovision Song as a special highlight Contest 2010, which he experienced first hand as part of the team in Norway.

In the Redfield Podcast with Alexander Schröder, Jochen Schuster reports on his eventful career in the music industry and how he became self-employed as a music manager and consultant for companies and brands in 2014.

He is currently working a lot for his new “Direct To Fan” platform Getnext.to, which is already being used by artists such as Henning Wehland, Das Lumpenpack and Joachim Witt. In the conversation, he explains his motivation for participating in this start-up and what additional revenue model he would like to establish for artists and creative people.

He also analyzes the current situation for record companies and artists, which continually poses new challenges for everyone involved. Schuster makes it clear what is important and what topics he is currently dealing with.
