The largest cultural department store in Europe is on Friedrichstrasse in Berlin. As managing director of KulturKaufhaus Dussmann, Andrea Ludorf has been responsible for a stationary sales area of 7,500 square meters on five floors since 2019, which is open until midnight on weekdays.
In the Redfield Podcast, she reports on how the cultural shopping experience is combined with tourist highlights and what challenges lie in curating on this scale.
There, too, you can feel the general change in shopping behavior, especially during the pandemic, which accelerated some developments.
The former sales manager at Bastei Lübbe talks about the in-house cultural factory including a printing workshop and vinyl cutting machine. She reports on the delayed e-commerce restructuring that is now gaining momentum and, for example, offers same-day delivery in Berlin.
Together with host Alexander Schröder, they look at the situation of competitors from e-commerce giants to small bookstores, discuss whether it would make sense to open more cultural department stores in large metropolises and how important brand is for Dussmann.
